am used to the govt doing some insane things but this one i have never heard. yesterdays' daily said that the government is set to supply drug users with injecting needles in order to control the spread of HIV through sharing needles. Drug abuse is not allowed in Kenya, thats why issuing drug users with injecting needles will be an indirect way of telling them to continue using drugs. whats your thoughts are these guys supposed to be arrested or supplied with injecting needles??? _________________ Undead :when tragedy strikes a wise man consoles himself that what happened to him was inevitable and moves on,

We have had a system like this implemented for several years. Contrary to what appearances may seem like it does not promote more drug abuse. If anything it will discourage the further spread because the addict does have to register when he is using he has the opportunity of going to a safe place without ramifications and obtain a clean needle instead of borrowing one or worse yet finding a syringe on the street. You have no idea who used it last, if they had HIV/AIDS or any other communicable disease..
Even if it cuts back a small percentage at the start it is still a golden opportunity to quit the spread.
Governments with high needle use should hae taken their heads out of the sand years ago..... |

Reality check1:
The laws aren't working - otherwise
we would not be discussing this.
Reality check2:
Needle-sharing remains a weak link in HIV-prevention efforts.
If supplying them needles will save some from infecting and being infected, the law be damned.
If we believe that drug-dependence is a sickness then they need to be treated like any other disease. Otherwise, all people recovering in drug rehabilitation facilities should be charged. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas; ordinary minds, events; simple minds, people; simpletons, sheep. |

I thought so too, i find it quite disturbing. Does that mean that we can all do drugs as long as we dont share needles? two wrongs certainly dont make a right _________________ If time slips away and you haven't heard a word from me, always remember that friendship is more than words, its a feeling of love, warmth and togetherness is our hearts. |

Most might urgue that the govt provides condoms for drunkards in bars.
But me thinks, if a junkie contracts HIV coz of sharing needles, he/she might as well die for all i care. Whats makes their bad habit the nations problem? they should blame themselves for their poor judgment _________________ i'm gonna live forever, or die trying.... and that's a fact. |
